Baseball Recap: Natchez Snaps Three-Game Streak of Losses at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against South Jones, Natchez was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Port Gibson Blue Waves. That's more bragging rights for the Bulldogs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Chris Sewell was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in hits (zero). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-4. Natchez is 2-1 when Sewell posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Draylen Scott was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Natchez was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Natchez's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-8. As for Port Gibson, they suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 6-4.

Natchez has already played their next match, a 17-2 win against South Pike on the 10th. As for Port Gibson, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 17-2 loss against West Lincoln on the 11th.
