Softball Game Preview: Lake Park Lancers vs. Elgin Maroons

The Lake Park Lancers will face off against the Elgin Maroons at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Park's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Elgin's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Lake Park is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Illinois' top teams: Wheaton North, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Lake Park was ranked 12th). The Lancers fell 5-1 to the Falcons on Thursday. The Lancers have struggled against the Falcons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, Elgin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Ridgewood.

Braedyn Tetrev spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits.

At the plate, Grace Tetrev made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Ainesly Downing was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Lake Park's defeat dropped their record down to 20-7. As for Elgin, their loss dropped their record down to 5-23.
