Basketball Game Preview: Mount Pleasant Tigers vs. Carson Cougars

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Mount Pleasant Tigers face off against the Carson Cougars at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday... Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Mount Pleasant will head into Friday's match out to bounce back: they won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They were beaten by Porter Ridge 55-20. The game marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, Carson suffered their biggest loss since February 13th on Friday. They took a blow against Robinson, falling 77-43. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 536th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 182nd).

Mount Pleasant will have to keep a close watch on Allie Martin and Julia Burleson, a pair of players who had a big impact on Carson's prior game. Martin went 5 of 12 en route to 16 points along with seven boards and five assists, while Burleson posted 11 points. Martin continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Even though they lost, Carson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in seven consecutive matches.

Carson's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Mount Pleasant, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Mount Pleasant was able to grind out a solid win over Carson in their previous matchup back in November, winning 34-27. Will Mount Pleasant repeat their success, or does Carson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
