Baseball Recap: Viera Finds Playoff Glory Versus Martin County

With a playoff win on the line, Viera rose to the challenge on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Martin County Tigers as they made off with an 11-1 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hawks considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Viera got a great performance from Blaine Werkeiser as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, Werkeiser posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

At the plate, Zak Al-Arashi was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Aiden Cameron, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Viera always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Martin County only posted an OBP of .176.

Viera's record is now 21-11. As for Martin County, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-9.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Viera beat the Tigers by a score of 5-2 on Saturday.
