Basketball Recap: Brackenridge's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

After a string of six wins, Brackenridge's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 80-71 to the Burbank Bulldogs. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 88-63 back in December of 2024.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ashlynn Cortinas, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds. Cortinas is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sarah Arriaga, who posted 21 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Brackenridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 14 consecutive contests.

Zara?Nique Nealy was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a triple-double on 18 points, nine boards, and ten assists for Burbank. Makayla Carter was another key player, putting up 20 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Brackenridge's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-14. As for Burbank, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 18-11 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Sam Houston the next time they take the court. Burbank will host Sam Houston at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while Brackenridge will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
