Baseball Game Preview: Benedictine Bengals vs. Avon Lake Shoremen

The Benedictine Bengals will take on the Avon Lake Shoremen at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Benedictine took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against St. Ignatius, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bengals came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wildcats on Monday, sneaking past 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bengals have posted since April 3rd.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Avon Lake, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They had just enough and edged out North Ridgeville 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Shoremen have posted against the Rangers since April 8, 2021.

Blake Andresen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.

On the hitting side, Avon Lake secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Alex Soloff, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Avon Lake has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Benedictine, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
