Softball Recap: Liberty Comes Up Short

After flying high against Coronado last Tuesday, Liberty came back down to earth. The Patriots fell just short of the Shadow Ridge Mustangs by a score of 4-3 on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Patriots of the 10-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Charlotte Crittenden was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Liberty saw nine different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leiani Malakaua, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI.

Liberty has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-4-2 record this season. As for Shadow Ridge, their record is now 10-5.

Coming up, Liberty will take on Centennial at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The last three games the Bulldogs have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Shadow Ridge, they will challenge Palo Verde at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
