New Brockton hasn't had much luck against Dale County recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The New Brockton Gamecocks will be taking part in a tournament against the Dale County Warriors at 3:00 p.m. New Brockton has given up an average of 13.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
New Brockton fell victim to Geneva and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Panthers, falling 15-0. The Gamecocks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dale County). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Houston County an 18-0 shutout on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Warriors sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Madyson McLain and Shayleigh Whitman were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, McLain tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Whitman pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in March of 2024. At bat, McLain scored three runs while going 1-for-2, while Whitman went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Whitman has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Bre Wilkerson and Leah Grace Snellgrove did most of the damage at the plate: Wilkerson scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2, while Snellgrove scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, Wilkerson posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was AK Snellgrove, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Dale County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .778. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Dale County pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for New Brockton, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
