Softball Game Preview: Johnson Jaguars vs. Laredo LBJ Wolves

The Johnson Jaguars will square off against the Laredo LBJ Wolves on Saturday. Johnson will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Johnson's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against Dripping Springs as they made off with a 10-0 win. The Jaguars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.

Johnson got several good pitching performances, but Brianna Kirkup was perhaps the best, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kirkup has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kiersten Williams, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Madalynn Mendoza, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Johnson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dripping Springs only posted a batting average of .120.

Meanwhile, in Friday's Canine Competition, Laredo LBJ didn't have enough. They lost 12-6 to Alexander on Friday.

Johnson pushed their record up to 22-4-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Laredo LBJ, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-12 record this season.
