Florence took care of business in their home opener on Thursday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Pearl Pirates. That's more bragging rights for the Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Florence had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 12-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-17.

Defeat or not, Pearl got some senior leadership from Bailey Chism and Karla Manzur. Chism had 13 digs and two aces, while Manzur had eight digs and four aces. Those four aces set a new season-high mark for Manzur.

Pearl is on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Florence does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Pearl, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against St. Andrew's Episcopal on the 12th.
