Basketball Preview: Deer Trail Eagles vs. Byers Bulldogs
Deer Trail is 0-9 against the Bulldogs since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Deer Trail Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Byers Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Tuesday, Deer Trail had to suffer through a rough 73-26 loss at the hands of the Eagles. Deer Trail was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-14.
Meanwhile, Byers' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Stratton 55-27. Byers has not had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Sophie Linnebur, who scored eight points along with two steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Cossette Kerns, who scored three points.
Deer Trail's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Byers, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Deer Trail took a serious blow against the Bulldogs in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 45-18. Can Deer Trail avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
