Baseball Recap: Palatine's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Palatine barely beat Elk Grove the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pirates put the hurt on the Grenadiers with a sharp 8-2 win on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Pirates sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Ian Sherman and Toby Peterson were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Sherman pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Peterson didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Sherman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Sherman went 2-for-4 with two runs, while Peterson went 2-for-3 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits Sherman has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adrian Santamaria, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Joe Riley was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Palatine's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Elk Grove, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-21 record this season.

Palatine will welcome Niles West at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Elk Grove, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Francis at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
