Basketball Recap: Estancia Comes Up Short

Estancia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Santa Rosa Lions 86-38. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while the Lions are ranked 23rd).

Estancia's loss came despite strong showings from Daniel Hernandez and Justin Rubio. Hernandez went 6 for 13 en route to 13 points, while Rubio almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. Hernandez continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

Estancia's loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Santa Rosa, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.

Estancia will take on Pecos at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pecos has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Santa Rosa, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Santa Rosa Lions take on the Raton Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Santa Rosa is coming into the match hot, having won their last 13 games.
