Baseball Recap: Wilmot Takes a Loss

Wilmot had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 9-16 to make it four. They came up short against the Badger Badgers, falling 8-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 8-7 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Wilmot saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chance Ruby, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.

As for Badger, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Considering they have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

On Badger's side, Riley Lussmyer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. Lussmyer has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brendan Kellar, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Gavin Stewart was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

While Wilmot had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
