Baseball Recap: New Waverly Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Onalaska, New Waverly was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Anderson-Shiro Fighting Owls by a score of 8-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Fighting Owls: they've now won three in a row.

Levi Brett tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over 5.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because New Waverly is 5-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-14 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Daniel Nixon, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colin Conover, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

New Waverly's win bumped their record up to 12-16. As for Anderson-Shiro, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 15-8-2 record.

New Waverly will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Fighting Owls: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
