Preview: Elizabeth Forward Warriors vs. Avonworth Antelopes
The Elizabeth Forward Warriors will square off against the Avonworth Antelopes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Elizabeth Forward had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against West Mifflin on Friday as Elizabeth Forward made off with a 42-21 victory. The win was just what Elizabeth Forward needed coming off of a 49-28 loss in their prior game.
Elizabeth Forward can attribute much of their success to Charlie Nigut, who rushed for 170 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.5 yards per carry. Charlie Meehleib made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Avonworth put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Beaver 41-21. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Avonworth just coasted through the last quarter.
Avonworth can attribute much of their success to Dimitri Velisaris, who rushed for 202 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and Andrew Kuban, who gained 213 total yards and three touchdowns. Kuban was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards.
Elizabeth Forward pushed their record up to 10-1 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.6 points per game. As for Avonworth, their victory bumped their record up to 11-0.
