Baseball Recap: Clay's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Clay extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping their season record up to 16-9 in the process. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Northview Wildcats 6-4. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Eagles also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Landon Eversman made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, Darin Fussell was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Brannan Vargas was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Clay hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.

As for Northview, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since May 14, 2024.

On Northview's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Roman McKarus, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another was Quinton Wilson, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.

Clay and Northview are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Eagles will square off against Lima Senior at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Clay is facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Northview, they will face off against Perkins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats are on a six-game streak of home wins, the Pirates a three-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
