Basketball Recap: Madilyn Ruby Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Goshen

After losing to Goshen the last time they met, Western Brown decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Western Brown Broncos came out on top against the Goshen Warriors by a score of 52-41 on Thursday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Broncos' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 291st, while the Warriors are ranked 134th).

Western Brown's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Madilyn Ruby led the charge by going 5 for 11 on her way to 13 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Ruby is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lu Waters, who posted six points and eight rebounds.

Western Brown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Western Brown has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Goshen, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Western Brown will head out to face off against New Richmond at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. As for Goshen, they will venture away from home to take on Chaminade Julienne Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
