Baseball Game Preview: Coolidge Bears vs. Blue Ridge Yellow Jackets

Coolidge hasn't had much luck against Blue Ridge recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Coolidge Bears will host the Blue Ridge Yellow Jackets at 1:30 p.m. Coolidge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

Coolidge fell victim to Snowflake and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lobos. The game marked the first time this season in which the Bears were not able to get on the board.

Coolidge saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Patrick Perez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Perez is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.

Meanwhile, Blue Ridge never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by an 11-0 margin over Alchesay. The Yellow Jackets haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Hunter Baskins looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Blue Ridge got a massive performance out of Hunter Krausee, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kaden Edgington, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Coolidge and nudges their season record down to 3-3. As for Blue Ridge, the win also got them back to even at 3-3.

Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Coolidge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .437. However, it's not like Blue Ridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Coolidge suffered a grim 22-6 defeat to Blue Ridge when the teams last played back in March of 2019. Can Coolidge avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
