Baseball Recap: Oakridge Drops Highest Score of Season Against Vernonia

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oakridge). They walked away with an 11-6 victory over the Vernonia Loggers on Saturday. While the Warriors didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-14-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Kayden Tiller was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jonathan Miller, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Cole Walters, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.

Oakridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Oakridge's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Vernonia, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Oakridge will head out to challenge Colton at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Vernonia, they will be playing at home against Country Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
