East Carter comes up short despite Scarlett Williams' strong performance

Recap: East Carter Raiders vs. St. Joseph Central Irish

The East Carter Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They suffered a rough 76-50 loss at the hands of St. Joseph Central. While losing is never fun, East Carter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 146th in Kentucky, while St. Joseph Central is ranked 37th in West Virginia).

When it comes to explaining why East Carter lost, one person who can't be blamed is Scarlett Williams. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Savannah Adams, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.

St. Joseph Central's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Gallion, who scored 19 points. Gallion is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 17 or more in the last four games she's played. Niko Kaufmann was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.

East Carter's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-9. As for St. Joseph Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

East Carter will head out on the road to square off against West Carter at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. East Carter is facing West Carter at the right time seeing as West Carter is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for St. Joseph Central, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lincoln County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lincoln County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Thursday.
