Basketball Recap: Hiawatha Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Hiawatha had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They strolled past the West Franklin Falcons with points to spare, taking the game 57-40. Given the Red Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Falcons are ranked 238th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hiawatha was led to victory by Kenzie Nelson and Kylie Nelson. Kenzie dropped a double-double with ten points and ten boards, while Kylie posted 23 points and seven rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Kylie has scored at least a third of Hiawatha's points. Claire Twombly was another key player, putting up five points in addition to six rebounds and three blocks.

Hiawatha's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for West Franklin, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.

Hiawatha has already played their next contest, a 39-33 loss against Wellsville on the 4th. West Franklin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
