Baseball Recap: Fordham Prep Drops Highest Score of Season Against Cardinal Spellman

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fordham Prep). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-11 victory over the Cardinal Spellman Pilots on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Rams sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Derek Soroa was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Soroa was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack McKillop, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Miguel Reich was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.

Fordham Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Fordham Prep pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Cardinal Spellman, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.

Fordham Prep and Cardinal Spellman should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Rams will take on McQuaid Jesuit at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (36 vs. 132). Meanwhile, Cardinal Spellman (ranked 50th) will meet Cardinal Hayes (ranked 153rd) at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
