Baseball Recap: Surry Central Takes a Loss

Surry Central started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against East Surry. They fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 3-2 on Monday. The Golden Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cardinals earlier this season, when they won 10-9.

Dru Gaddy was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out 12 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Surry Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Woodring, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Woodring has launched this season.

The defeat snapped Surry Central's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 16-7 record. As for East Surry, they moved to 12-10 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Surry Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for East Surry, they will head out to challenge Forbush at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Cardinals surely won't give up without a fight.
