Baseball Recap: Washington Find Success

Washington hadn't done well against Sumner Academy recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Sabres with a sharp 7-1 victory. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 3-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Ryan Hooks and Chris Reno made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Hooks tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Reno struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Hooks has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Hooks went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Reno scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Reno also put up a triple, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luis Lopez, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Eric Fennix, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Washington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .348 or higher in three consecutive matches.
