Recap: Lake Marion Gators vs. Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins
If the Lake Marion Gators were feeling good off their 74-13 takedown of the Branchville Yellow Jackets on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Lake Marion was beaten by Orangeburg-Wilkinson 60-33 on Friday. While losing is never fun, Lake Marion can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while Orangeburg-Wilkinson is ranked 23rd).
Lake Marion's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Danasia Wright, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. The game was Wright's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Teonna Allen, who scored nine points.
Even though they lost, Lake Marion were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Orangeburg-Wilkinson only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Leading Orangeburg-Wilkinson to victory were Malayshia Bradley and Joliyah Robinson . Bradley dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds, while Robinson scored 20 points. Robinson also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of D'ivona Rumph, who scored six points along with six rebounds and four blocks.
Lake Marion has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Orangeburg-Wilkinson, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
Lake Marion is on the road again on Tuesday and play against First Baptist School at 12:00 p.m. on December 19th. Orangeburg-Wilkinson will take on Greenville in a holiday battle at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at. Greenville is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
