The Corcoran Panthers will head out to challenge the Boron Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Corcoran has given up an average of 34.1 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Corcoran is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with a 55-43 win over Farmersville on Friday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Panthers' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.
Justin Huerta was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 68 yards and two scores. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making four total tackles (0.5 for loss) and defending one pass. Cortez Portillo got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Corcoran was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 338 rushing yards. They are 3-1 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for Corcoran, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Portillo, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Boron had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past the Ravens 28-0. Considering the Bobcats have won four games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Corcoran better keep an eye on Andrew Gartica. He was instrumental in Boron's win, rushing for 237 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 11.9 yards per carry, and also picking up 59 receiving yards. What's more, Gartica posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in August of 2024.
Boron's record is now 6-4. As for Corcoran, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 3-7.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Corcoran has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 173.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Boron struggles in that department as they've been averaging 167.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
