Football Recap: Northgate Takes a Loss

While it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Northgate was not quite Menlo School's equal in the second half on Friday. They lost 50-28 to the Knights. The Broncos have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Maximus Cantrell threw for 188 yards and two TDs. Dax Gordon was his top target, picking up 98 receiving yards and a pair of scores. On the ground, Tristan Tolerton rushed for 76 yards.

Jack Freehill was his usual excellent self, rushing for 75 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only seven carries, while also throwing for 182 yards and three TDs for Menlo School. Trevor Van Der Pyl was another key player, picking up 81 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Northgate now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Menlo School, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Northgate will venture away from home to face off against Las Lomas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights' defense has only allowed 7.2 points per game this season, so the Broncos' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Menlo School, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Menlo-Atherton at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. This will be the Knights' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
