Basketball Recap: Lincoln Takes a Loss

Lincoln was the 51-49 winner over Gainesville when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Lincoln Trojans lost 64-41 to the Gainesville Hurricanes on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 50th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gainesville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mayah Gordon, who went 7-for-10 en route to 19 points and seven rebounds. Gordon continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Terry, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 13 points and five boards.

Lincoln's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 15-9. As for Gainesville, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Gainesville beat Lincoln by a score of 66-28 on Thursday.
