Baseball Recap: Armijo Drops Highest Score of Season Against Johnson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Armijo). They put the hurt on the Johnson Warriors with a sharp 20-3 victory on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Samuel Fierro was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit and allowing only one earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Armijo let Aiden Espinoza and Kevin Marks run wild. Espinoza scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Marks scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits Marks has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Amaya Hall, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Armijo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Johnson only managed two hits.

Armijo is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Johnson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Armijo wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 4-3 defeat against Wood on the 4th. As for Johnson, they have also already played their next match, an 18-7 win against Florin on the 8th.
