Basketball Recap: High Island Comes Up Short

High Island lost against Burkeville on January 3rd and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The High Island Cardinals were dealt a 46-19 loss at the hands of the Burkeville Mustangs. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

High Island lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kwmae Medina, who posted a point and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave Medina a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cam'Ron Medina, who put up six points.

Burkeville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kalep Adams, who dropped a double-double on ten boards and ten assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kort Metts, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

High Island's defeat dropped their record down to 4-20. As for Burkeville, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-15.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the High Island Cardinals challenge the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats at 7:04 p.m. on February 4th. As for Burkeville, they will head out on the road to square off against Goodrich at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Burkeville is facing Goodrich at the right time seeing as Goodrich is stuck on a 21-game losing streak.
