Volleyball Recap: Newfield Takes a Loss

If Newfield was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Copiague on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wolverines fell just short of the Commack Cougars by a score of 3-2 on Monday. The Wolverines were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Newfield took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 25-10, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12.

Melissa Alfaro paced Newfield's offense, picking up 14 kills. Alfaro got some help from Lily Kolasinski and her 33 assists. Finally, Alfaro was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

Newfield's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Commack, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Coming up, Newfield will challenge Lindenhurst at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Commack does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
