Basketball Game Preview: Strasburg Rams vs. Madison County Mountaineers

The Strasburg Rams will square off against the Madison County Mountaineers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

Last Friday, Strasburg strolled past Madison County with points to spare, taking the game 61-46. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while the Mountaineers are ranked 337th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Madison County saw an underclassman step up: freshman Gracie Woodward dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 boards. The dominant performance also gave Woodward a new career-high in assists (four). Ayana Green was another key player, putting up six points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Madison County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive games.

Strasburg pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.2 points per game. As for Madison County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.
