Basketball Recap: Wheatland-Grinnell Falls Despite Big Games from Brooklyn Thomas and Aliviah Ball

Wheatland-Grinnell lost against Quinter back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks received a blow as they fell 57-42 to the Quinter Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Thunderhawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 25th).

Wheatland-Grinnell's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Aliviah Ball, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Brooklyn Thomas, who posted seven points along with eight boards and four steals. Wheatland-Grinnell is 10-1 when Ball posts eight or more rebounds, but 2-4 otherwise.

Quinter found their leader in sophomore Kamry Getz, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 12 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Getz has scored all season. Braelyn Blackwill was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Wheatland-Grinnell's defeat dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Quinter, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.

Wheatland-Grinnell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 50-46 victory against Cheylin on the 14th. As for Quinter, they have also already played their next game, a 59-26 win against Hill City on the 13th.
