Basketball Game Preview: Scarborough Spartans vs. Wheatley Wildcats

Scarborough is 0-10 against Wheatley since December of 2019 but things could change on Saturday. The Scarborough Spartans will be playing at home against the Wheatley Wildcats at 12:30 p.m.

Scarborough is headed into Saturday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game last Tuesday. They were beaten by Westbury 52-4.

Meanwhile, Wheatley entered their tilt with Worthing on Saturday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They breezed by the Colts to the tune of 72-42. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 25 points or more this season.

Scarborough better focus on containing Jamie Solomon and Caria Thomas as the pair were huge in Wheatley's win. Solomon posted 21 points in addition to five boards and four steals, while Thomas went 6 of 14 on her way to 16 points along with five assists and three steals. The match was Solomon's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Williams, who put up eight points.

Wheatley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 23 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Wheatley's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33.1 points. As for Scarborough, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.

Scarborough took a serious blow against Wheatley in their previous meeting back in January, falling 64-18. Thankfully for Scarborough, Autumn Breedlove (who went 9 of 13 on her way to 18 points and five rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
