Basketball Recap: Wilson Central Comes Up Short

Wilson Central played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Blackman Blaze, falling 62-33. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Blaze are ranked 24th).

Wilson Central's loss came despite strong showings from Kylie Moss and Brylee Fly. Moss posted eight points along with seven boards and four steals, while Fly put up ten points and seven rebounds. Moss continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Blackman's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Layla Hall, who went 5-for-10 en route to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Hall is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Amirah Herring, who shot 46% from the field on her way to 16 points.

Wilson Central has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-18 record this season. The win (which was Blackman's fourth in a row) raised their record to 23-3.

Wilson Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Blackman, they will square off against Cookeville at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Blackman is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.2 points per game this season.
