Softball Recap: Franklin Takes a Loss

Franklin made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Grove City, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Knights fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 8-6 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Knights have suffered since April 15, 2024.

Jersey Swartz was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Swartz was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Abigail Boland led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-3 with two triples and one RBI. Gabrielle Laderer was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Franklin is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9. As for Grove City, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Franklin will venture away from home to square off against Slippery Rock at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Grove City, they will head out to face off against Oil City at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Oilers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.67 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
