Soccer Game Preview: Hendersonville vs. Wilkes Central

The Hendersonville Bearcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Wilkes Central Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Hendersonville is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Their defense stepped up to hand Trinity a 4-0 shutout. Give Hendersonville's defense some credit: that's the team's fifth straight shutout.

Meanwhile, Wilkes Central waltzed into their game on Tuesday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. They were the clear victors by a 5-2 margin over the Cavaliers. Given Wilkes Central's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while East Rutherford are ranked 310th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wilkes Central's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up three goals over those seven matchups. As for Hendersonville, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-2-2 record this season.
