It was a good run, but Merrillville unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost to the Lawrence Central Bears at home by a 51-32 margin. The match marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Lawrence Central had a senior duo take command as Jaylah Lampley almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards and Laila Abdurraqib went 6 of 12 on her way to 14 points and seven assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Lola Lampley, who posted eight points and nine rebounds.

Merrillville's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Lawrence Central, they pushed their record up to 16-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Merrillville will take on Chesterton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lawrence Central, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lawrence North at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th.
