Preview: Gibbs Gladiators vs. St. Petersburg Green Devils
The Gibbs Gladiators are on the road again on Friday and play against the St. Petersburg Green Devils at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd. Gibbs comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Last Friday, Gibbs didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Boca Ciega, but they still walked away with a 12-7 win.
The critical scores for Gibbs came from Dontrez Young and Kyree Jenkins.
Meanwhile, St. Petersburg had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.3 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They blew past Hollins, posting a 45-6 victory at home. Considering St. Petersburg has won six contests by more than 23 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Jeff Jones continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 216 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Jones was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 64 yards.
Their wins bumped Gibbs to 1-7 and St. Petersburg to 7-2.
Gibbs came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Petersburg in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, sneaking past 20-18. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gibbs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
