Baseball Game Preview: Leslie County Eagles vs. Perry County Central Commodores

Leslie County hasn't had much luck against Perry County Central recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Commodores at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Leslie County had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Buckhorn on Thursday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 14-1 win. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for the Eagles this season.

Connor Russell tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March.

On the hitting side, Rylan Simpson was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Leslie County's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 7-21 when he doesn't). Caden Caldwell also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Leslie County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .677. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Perry County Central had just enough and edged out Martin County 4-3 on Thursday. The Commodores haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Perry County Central's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jeffrey Hancock, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Connor Perkins was another, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Leslie County's record now sits at 9-22. As for Perry County Central, their record is now 15-18.

Leslie County couldn't quite finish off Perry County Central when the teams last played last Friday and fell 6-4. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
