Softball Recap: St. Mary's Takes a Loss

After soaring to 15 runs the game before, St. Mary was a bit more limited in their contest on Wednesday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lodi Flames. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Flames this season, with their most recent defeat being a 9-1 loss last Tuesday.

Ava Arucan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, St. Mary's saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maya Garcia, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

St. Mary's has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Lodi, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

St. Mary's will be playing at home against Tracy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their 18th straight win, something the Rams surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lodi, they will welcome Lincoln at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Flames' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
