League recap: Palatka climbs in standings with win

Palatka was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 5A District 4. The Panthers beat Menendez 21-10 earlier in the week.

Ponte Vedra extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Creekside, 20-0. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Sharks.

Nease's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Augie Debiase threw for 58 and one touchdown and Justin Johnson had 36 yards receiving. On the ground Ulysses Bryant chipped in 244 yards. Wade Crenshaw helped Nease's passing attack out by catching one ball for 31 yards.

6-foot-4 quarterback Matt Deegan of Ponte Vedra is the league leader in passing yards this season with 693. He has also thrown four touchdowns. On the ground, the Panthers' Bryant has rushed for 1330 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Johnson. The Nease star has 18 catches for 365 yards.

A big matchup in 5A District 4 this week will be when Nease takes on the Knights. Shane Matthews' team is currently in second, while Creekside is in fifth.

The Panthers moved up to 211 from 247 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Nease climbed the ranks as a result of beating Matanzas 37-14.
