Softball Recap: Southmont Wins Going Away Against Fountain Central

After losing to Fountain Central the last time they met, Southmont decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Mounties were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Mustangs on Thursday. The Mounties might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Mallory Mason, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Anna Stokes was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Southmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Southmont is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Fountain Central, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-6.

Coming up, Southmont will look to defend their home field on Friday against Clinton Prairie at 5:00 p.m. As for Fountain Central, they will venture away from home to face off against Faith Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.6 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
