Preview: Columbia Eagles vs. Lee Generals
Columbia is 0-9 against Lee since September of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Columbia Eagles will be staying on the road to face off against the Lee Generals at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Friday, Columbia had to suffer through a rough 49-14 loss at the hands of Athens. While losing is never fun, Columbia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 311th, while Athens is ranked 53rd).
Meanwhile, Lee fell victim to Gadsden City's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Titans at home and fell 41-0. It was the first time this season that Lee let down their fans at home.
Columbia's defeat was their 18th straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-0 Muscle Shoals and 8-0 Fairview (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 67.5% over those games). As for Lee, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Columbia was taken down by Lee 49-8 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Columbia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
