Softball Game Preview: Grand Valley Mustangs vs. Chalker Wildcats

Grand Valley has gone a perfect 3-0 against Chalker recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mustangs will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Grand Valley has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Chalker will arrive with three straight wins.

Grand Valley fell victim to Mathews and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against Mathews, falling 9-0.

Meanwhile, Chalker beat Mineral Ridge 9-5 on Wednesday.

Tatum Hudak made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Hudak was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Abby Grimm was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Morgan Strock, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4.

Chalker was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Chalker's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Grand Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Grand Valley beat Chalker 5-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2017. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
