Recap: McCool Junction Mustangs vs. St. Mary's Cardinals
After a string of three wins, the McCool Junction Mustangs's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of St. Mary's by a score of 41-39. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points McCool Junction has scored all season.
Briann Stutzman and McKenna Yates certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Stutzman scored 16 points, while Yates scored 15 points. The contest was Yates' eighth in a row with at least ten points.
Mya Hedstrom was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals for St. Mary's. Hedstrom is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lorissa Reiman, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
McCool Junction's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for St. Mary's, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McCool Junction will challenge Harvard at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Mary's, they will head out on the road to face off against Bloomfield on Tuesday.
