Basketball Recap: Preston Avery and Paxton Coon Secure Win for Wake Christian Academy

There's no place like home for Wake Christian Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the St. David's Warriors on Friday, sneaking past 71-68. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Leading Wake Christian Academy to victory were Paxton Coon and Preston Avery. Coon went 7 for 16 on his way to 22 points, while Avery went 7 of 13 en route to 20 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Avery is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Justin Malacinski, who posted nine points.

George Coleman and Cooper Berkoff certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Coleman went 6 for 12 on his way to 19 points along with seven rebounds and six steals, while Berkoff dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. Coleman's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Leighton Little was another key player, putting up six points.

Wake Christian Academy's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 6-16. As for St. David's, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Trinity Academy the next time they take the court. St. David's will host Trinity Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, while Wake Christian Academy will head out to face them at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
