Basketball Recap: Holtville Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Holtville's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They snuck past the Southwest EC Eagles with a 54-48 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Vikings as it spelled an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Despite the loss, Southwest EC saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gabriel Gonzalez posted 16 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Bayne Bernal, who scored nine points.

Holtville's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 6-11. As for Southwest EC, their defeat was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-17.

Holtville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-46 loss against Palo Verde Valley on the 31st. As for Southwest EC, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 61-38 defeat against Brawley on the 31st.
