The Chautauqua Lake Eagles will square off against the Forestville Central Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chautauqua Lake is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
Forestville Central's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Chautauqua Lake hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Eagles never let Frewsburg get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory on Friday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by ten runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Jillan Miller, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenna Ryberg, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Forestville Central posted their closest win since April 23rd on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Brocton 2-0. The victory continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won six in a row.
Brocton's batters probably weren't too happy with Megan Gruber, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 14 Ks (she gave up zero walks). Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Gruber.
On the hitting side, Forestville Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Valentine, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was Valentine's first of the season.
Chautauqua Lake pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Forestville Central, their win bumped their record up to 11-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Chautauqua Lake has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Forestville Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Chautauqua Lake came out on top in a nail-biter against Forestville Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2016, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
